Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 10, 2026
Hostly ("Hostly", "we", "us") is an event-planning app that helps you and the people you invite organize get-togethers — coordinating details, chat, expenses, billing, documents, photos, bring-lists, RSVPs, polls, and rides for a shared event. This Privacy Policy explains what information Hostly collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with.
Hostly is operated by an individual developer, Enes Yildir, not a registered company. If you have questions, use the contact details at the bottom of this page.
Information you provide
| Category | What we collect |
|---|---|
| Account | Email address, password (stored as a one-way hash, never in plain text), display name, first/last name |
| Profile | Profile photo (if you upload one) or a selected avatar preset |
| Event content | Event names, descriptions, locations, dates, and any flyer photo you upload for an event |
| Group chat | Messages you send within an event's group chat |
| Expenses | Expense descriptions, amounts, and any receipt photo you attach |
| Bring list | Items you add or claim to bring to an event |
| RSVP & polls | Your attendance response, and poll questions/votes |
| Rides | Ride offers you post (seat count, free-text notes) and seats you claim — Hostly does not collect GPS location or live location data |
| Photos | Photos you upload to an event's shared photo album |
| Billing & payments | Billing item names, amounts, due dates, and payment status (who has paid). Hostly never stores your payment card details — card processing is handled entirely by Stripe or Square on their own servers under their own privacy policies. |
| Documents | Files you upload to share with event members (e.g. waivers, itineraries) |
| Invites | The email address of anyone you invite to an event |
Information collected automatically
- Push notification token — if you allow notifications, we store a device push token (via Apple/Google's push services) so we can notify you about activity in your events (new messages, expenses, polls, and similar).
- Photo library access — the app requests access to your photo library only when you choose to upload a picture (profile photo, event flyer, receipt, or album photo). Hostly never accesses your camera directly or browses your library without you initiating an upload.
- Basic server logs — our hosting provider may log standard technical data (IP address, timestamps, request paths) for security and reliability purposes.
How your information is shared
Hostly is a shared, multi-person app by design, so some information is inherently visible to other people:
- Other members of your events can see your display name, avatar, and anything you post within that event (chat messages, expenses, RSVPs, photos, bring-list items, poll votes, ride offers).
- Service providers we rely on to run the app: our hosting/database provider, and Apple/Google's push notification services (to deliver notifications to your device). These providers only receive what's needed to perform their function and don't get independent rights to use your data.
- Payment processors — when you pay a billing item inside an event, you're directed to a payment form operated by Stripe, Inc. or Square, Inc. (depending on what the event organiser has connected). Stripe or Square receive the payment details (card number, billing address, etc.) needed to complete the transaction. Hostly never receives, stores, or has access to your full card details. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy and Square's is at squareup.com/us/en/legal/general/privacy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Your rights & choices
- Access, correction, and deletion. You can view and update most of your information directly in the app (Profile), and delete your account and personal data at any time (Profile → Delete Account). You can also email us to request a copy of your data or ask us to correct or delete it.
- Notifications. You can turn off push notifications at any time in your device's system settings.
- Photo library access. You can revoke Hostly's photo library permission at any time in your device's system settings; this only limits your ability to upload new photos.
If you're a California, EU/UK, or other resident with statutory data-protection rights, we honor requests to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data to the extent required by applicable law — contact us using the details below.
International data transfers
Hostly's servers are located in the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your account and event data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the app (Profile → Delete Account). Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and the content you've personally created (messages, expenses, billing records, documents, photos, RSVPs, poll votes, ride offers, etc.). If you own events with other members in them, you'll need to delete or hand off those events first, since deleting them affects everyone in the event. Payment transaction records that Stripe or Square hold are governed by their own retention policies.
Children's privacy
Hostly is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Security
We use industry-standard measures (such as password hashing and encrypted network connections) to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Cookies
Hostly uses two strictly necessary cookies — token and refreshToken — to keep you logged in.
We don't use analytics, advertising, or any tracking cookies. For full details, see our
Cookie Policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
